Solving Insite and Afghanistan

Warning, following post contains sarcasm and hyperbole

---------------------
There's a way to help solve many of the problems in Afghanistan while at the
same time solving the dilemma over Insite, Vancouver's Downtown Eastside's
safe injection site for heroin addicts. Insite's exemption from the criminal
code is about to expire.

First, take Insite to what many call its next logical
progression...providing heroin for the addicts that use the site...this
eliminates the criminality and social problems that exist as a result of the
illegal heroin drug trade, provides a safe and secure supply of the drug to
addicts and will help clean up the Downtown Eastside community.

Second, the government of Canada will henceforth exclusively rely on Afghani-grown poppies
for its heroin. The government would also provide funds to create a world-class heroin
manufacturing site in Afghanistan therby creating needed jobs. This helps
legitimaize heroin as a cash crop in Afganistan, provides much needed jobs
and income for Afghani farmers and provides a built-in incentive for farmers
to quit supporting the Taliban (we would only buy from loyal suppliers of course).
Canadian troops could then actively patrol the fields and manufacturing site
as security, satisfied in the knowledge that they making the world safe for
Canadian heroin addicts (which, let's face it, the Canadian military is
already doing).

A domestic political and foreign policy win for Hippo and co they can take
to the next election.
